![]() Tragically, Rhoads was killed in a March 1982 plane crash while on tour. This iconic custom guitar was unique enough that Grover decided to put his own name on it instead of the Charvel name, and Jackson Guitars was born. Jackson Guitars was born thanks to the hard work of Grover Jackson and a fledgling guitar god in the making, Randy Rhoads. After making guitars under the Charvel name in the '70s and '80s, Grover Jackson was contacted by Randy to build him a distinctive guitar, and the pair quickly designed the "Concorde"- a streamlined, offset V-shaped white guitar with neck-through-body construction. Ever since then, Jackson guitars have been universally lauded as the metal guitars the shred machines-highly original high-performance instruments of distinctive style and formidable substance. Jackson began back in the late 1970s, when heavy music experienced a flamboyant and virtuosic resurgence in popularity and a small Southern California guitar repair shop became the epicenter of a new level of shred-approved excellence.
